Ferrari's world champion of 2007 Kimi Raikkonen is an 'unbelievable' character, team boss Stefano Domenicali said on Wednesday.
At the traditional 'Wrooom' ski and media event in the Italian Dolomites, Domenicali was asked about the famous personality of the team's reticent Finnish driver, who carries the nickname 'Iceman' on his helmet.
"Kimi lives in another world; on another planet," he is quoted as saying by the German news agency SID.
Domenicali's point is reinforced by an anecdote of the Italian press following the launch of the new F60 earlier this week.
According to colleagues who attended the Mugello roll-out of the 2009 car, while drivers Felipe Massa, Michael Schumacher, Luca Badoer and Marc Gene conversed in the paddock, 29-year-old Raikkonen was asleep in a car in the carpark.
"Kimi isolates himself," Domenicali confirmed. "If he feels pressure, then it's only because he has put it on himself."
"Nothing that is coming from the outside affects him at all - and that is unbelievable," he said.
Domenicali said he would never expect Raikkonen to emerge from the winter break and 'has suddenly learned Italian', or is 'suddenly smiling'.
"That is not the way he is," the Italian explained. "But he is completely impatient to drive and win races again."

ginger-gitt, sorry that your uncle doesn't know alot then, the mercedes engine only puts out 25 bhp more than ferrari , but ferrari has a 20 mph, straight line speed advantage, not very clever mercedes .
Kimi can beat anyone if he wants to but from what I have read he was bedevilled with some emotional problems which possibly affected his self-esteem and explains his on/off performance to a degree last year.Being the highest paid driver in F1 history (probably) his outlook amazes me that he is so non plussed by seemingly everything yet blindingly quick behind the wheel.I hope he can be more friendly with his team mate and not take it personally when Felipe is slightly quicker.
Let's see how Raikkonen can match-up against Timo Glock this season. Especially during wet races on slicks.
tifosi4eva: Long time no see, thought you might have given up on the sport, or at the very least on Yahoo. I only have one issue with Massa winning the title, and that is the fact he isn't realistically in the top 5 drivers on the grid, and one season doesn't change that fact, Kimi is still to be considered a better driver. If however he continues next season the way he raced the last and proves it wasn't a flash in the pan lucky year, then yes he may well deserve it. I fear 2008 was more about the car than it was about him though, but we'll wait and see if I'm wrong.
Well lets hope the 'iceman' can do a lot better than last year! Kimi is an excllent driver for sure and his lack of enthusiasm is usually quite amusing making him unintentionally one of the best characters in the field.
Having said this, I'd still rather see Massa win the WDC because he always seems to try, he seems to get on great with the team and is always a great guy. I think it would mean a lot more to him than it would Kimi.
MikeQ: I am sure mouronroute said his "inside man" at Force India was actually a Ferrari employee. Now there is no Ferrari deal there, where is he getting his information* from?
mouronroute: Why do you keep claiming to know something you can never share? You are actually a school kid with the "I have a secret and you don't" mentality. Well how about this, my uncle (who is a mechanic for an unspecified outfit operating from a base in the East Midlands) informs me that the Ferrari V8 is lacking in torque compared to a Mercedes or BMW unit and with out the upper echelons of the band width the mid-range acceleration is down pound-for-pound on the germans.
* = I use this term in the loosest possible sense, in the same sense that you could describe a grain of sand as a boulder.
See Mike, He's gone...........Just like a woman, tease ya and leave.......
"Raikkonen was asleep in a car in the carpark."
Probably sleeping off a hangover...
Hey touronroute, can you please elaborate????????????????????
What FORCE, The police?, the Jedi Knights?, spit it out man!!
MIKEQ, I CAN TELL YOU THE FORCE ARE NOT HAPPY.
What have you been told Touron ?? Don't be coy !
warrlokkmage, very well said, you dont have to show off, there racing drivers , not film stars, from what i've been told today nobody will touch ferrari.
warrlokkmage,
My opinions exactly. I guess Ferrari decided to help Massa as they have been supporting him from his Sauber days and Schumi is a big backer of Massa so they didn't want their investment to go to waste. But I think Kimi would still have won the title if it were not for that mistake at Spa.
Kimi only cares about F1 in the sense that all he wants to do is drive and race. As it should be. Everyone moans and complains because he doesn't do interviews etc. So what? Kimi's job is to drive the car, and that's it. People don't bug you for interviews at your job. And just because he can drive a car faster than just about anyone doesn't mean he should have to put up with answering the same stupid questions over and over from a never ending line of interviewers.
And as for people complaining about him not delivering a second championship to Ferrari last season, it's Ferrari's own fault. Kimi had the lead in the championship, everyone was calling for Massa to be sacked after his hopeless start to the season, and then Ferrari in their 'wisdom' change the car to suit Massa, and not Kimi. And before you say it was 'progress', why did they then late in the season change back to the way the car was? And behold Kimi's end of year resurgence, once it was too late for him to actually win the title. Ferrari made a BIG mistake, one that they had better have learnt from
Kimi is one of the most colourful characters in F1 by trying so hard not to be a character. F1 misses folks like Montoya...the current driver pool is as exciting as a stationary brick.
i think hope he will be faster than massa . he is a great driver just not a great team player.
Just the kind of guy you want to bust your @#$% for.
thats @#$%
He did deliver in 2007 and u don't become world champion without working hard.
He'll be back in 2009 to prove everyone, especially misguided people like u, wrong
"According to colleagues who attended the Mugello roll-out of the 2009 car, while drivers Felipe Massa, Michael Schumacher, Luca Badoer and Marc Gene conversed in the paddock, 29-year-old Raikkonen was asleep in a car in the carpark"
Obviously a great team player; similarly demonstrated by his efforts for his team last season. 'I'll go fast when I feel like it - just keep the adulation and $$ coming'.
Never a worthy world champion.
