Championship - McLeish not giving up on Boyd

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has not yet given up hope of signing Rangers striker Kris Boyd and said: "I wouldn't rule it out."

McLeish tried to capture the former Kilmarnock player last week for a reported fee of £3.75 million but the deal broke down when personal terms could not be agreed.

Since then, McLeish has sent out mixed messages with regards to the possibility of resurrecting the deal, and the Scotland international's agent described the deal as "dead".

However, the Birmingham manager was quoted in the Daily Record as saying the deal was only a phone call away.

"I wouldn't rule it out," he said. "If there is a deal to be done, watch this space.

"I guess it will take a phone call to make that happen. I only want to bring in someone I am sure of."
