Cristiano Ronaldo has rubbished claims he has signed a pre-contract with Real Madrid, saying he wants to stay at Manchester United.

Fresh reports emerged from Spain on Tuesday claiming the Portugal winger will join Real in the summer after the Liga champions failed to sign him last year.

But Ronaldo's priority is to continue his success at Old Trafford.

"I know it will be hard but I want to achieve even more things with these great players we have at United," he said.

"We can dominate. Manchester has a lot of young players - myself included - so the future for the club looks good. I want to be here, to be a part of the success that I believe lies ahead.

"For me, it's great to be a part of this fantastic club and my motivation is to win more trophies.

"I'm still very ambitious. I want to carry on and repeat the success I've already had."

On Tuesday, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said Ronaldo had an obligation to stay at the club.

"We are all proud of Cristiano achieving the status he has," Ferguson said of the FIFA World Player of the Year. "But it is a two-way street.

"The player must have the personal ambition, the desire and drive to succeed.

"But he also owes a lot to Manchester United for nurturing and encouraging him in the proper way at the right times."

  1. Francisco in 1999 Man U won what was called The Impossible Treble for an English club because of the pressures and number of games that English teams have to play. But they did it. Premiership Champions, FA Cup and European Champions. I don't remember seeing the name of Christiano Ronaldo in the team for one single game. Man U will be great long after he is gone just as they were long before the got there

  2. Francisco read again what Ferguson said. Ronaldo joined Man U as a talented player with fantastic dribbling ability. The world is full of kids with great dribbling abilities. But football is a team game. Many games with Maradona playing he was on the losing side. Man U took the raw talent of Ronaldo and made a complete footballer out of him. Sir Alex was saying, quite rightly, that your Portuguese compatriot benefitted from being at Man U in becoming the player he is today. Nobody with half a brain doubts that except you

  4. CR become great because David Beckham went to Madrid (In case he stayed in MU no CR) . If he wants’ to go some one will replace him, and it will become better than him because, no player is greater than MU. For me the main problem is what will happen when SAF retire. Will Murinio play attacking football like MU PLAY TODAY?

  5. Wrong! CR went to Manchester after Sporting beat them 4-0 in Lisbon. The semeilhas did what he liked with the useless brits.

  6. I'm a United supporter for more than 40 years. But Mister Fergusson is wrong. Man United owes a lot to 'semeilhas' Cristiano Reinaldo. He was discovered in Lisbon after Sporting beat Man United 4-0 (2003). Of course 'Semeilhas' did what he wanted from the brits. fergusson so he has discovered a mine and Sporting was in need of money. CR was already a crack when he went to england.

  7. I guarantee real madrid paid that hack "journalist" to report that rubbish. ronaldo is going nowhere and anyone who is not a fan of real madrid, the greatest underachievers in football, know that.

  9. I agree with Sir Alex. United need players that can commit themselves on or off the pitch, have a good attitude, a sense of pride. These are what i'd expect from one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

  11. It is impossible to measure, but it is without doubt invaluable to a team and a player to be nurtured the way SAF nurtures his players. Think of all of the really decent players who never seemed to take that next step to greatness. What if they had SAF to toughen them up and bring them on. Glory, glory Man United !!
