Johnson calls for fans help

Thu 14 Feb, 02:45 PM

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson has called for the club's supporters to help turn Ashton Gate into a 'fortress' for the rest of the season. The Robins, in their first season back in the Championship after an eight-year absence, occupy the second automatic promotion spot behind league leaders Watford with just 14 matches left to play.

Monday's televised visit of promotion rivals Crystal Palace has been designated 'red and white night' as the club attempt to generate a partisan atmosphere to maximise home advantage, and Johnson wants the City faithful to play their part in the push for the Premier League.

"We have had tremendous support on red and white nights in the past and I know we can rely on our fans to give us that again on Monday," said Johnson. "It is absolutely crucial that Ashton Gate becomes a fortress, a place where opposition teams fear playing.

"Ashton Gate needs to be really strong now. We have put ourselves in a great position and it is now a case of whatever it takes. That is where our supporters can play a massive part by getting behind the boys.

"Everybody now has to give that little bit extra, both on and off the field. Our home form has been excellent this season and we need to keep that going between now and May."
