Kim set for Baggies debut

Thu 14 Feb, 06:30 PM

South Korean international midfielder Do-heon Kim is poised to make his West Brom debut in Saturday's FA Cup fifth round clash at Coventry.Kim joined Albion in a transfer deadline day loan deal last month from Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma with a view to a permanent move in the summer.

The 25-year-old earned his Hawthorns move after he impressed during a training spell with the Baggies.

West Brom manager Tony Mowbray said: "We will put the strongest team available out, there will be no disrespect to the FA Cup and Kim has a good chance of playing some part of the game.

"He has shown up very well in training and looks a very talented footballer as we saw when he came over for his training.

"He's only just stepped off a plane, as he came here from Korea on Wednesday, but I think there's a fair chance he'll have some part to play on Saturday."

Mowbray is confident of having at least two of his injured players available to face the Sky Blues after Roman Bednar, Zoltan Gera and Robert Koren were all ruled out of the mid-week clash with Sheffield United.

He said: "We think we will be better off with team selection. Two of the three (Bednar, Koren and Gera) should be ready to play but one probably won't.

"Part of our strength has been being able to change things off the bench and we didn't have those options in the week."

Mowbray expects a tough battle against Coventry despite them being managerless and lingering near the bottom of the Coca Cola Championship.

He said: "I don't know if it's harder because of their situation. All I know is that by nature Coventry are a very competitive side, with some very competitive players in their midfield.

"To go to the Ricoh Arena and play our own game will be difficult. What allowed us to do that earlier in the season is that they had a player sent off in the first few minutes and that extra player allowed us to get going and we ran out 4-0 winners.

"But generally speaking it's a tough place to go as Cardiff found out earlier this week. Cardiff are a fluent passing football team and they had a tough night on Tuesday and we're expecting one on Saturday but hopefully we'll have enough to progress."
