Huddersfield skipper Jon Worthington is ready for more "massive disappointment" as he tries to be fit for his side's FA Cup clash at Chelsea. The tough-tackling midfielder missed out through suspension when the two sides met at Stamford Bridge in the third round of the competition two years ago and is a major doubt for Saturday's return in the fifth round.
Worthington said: "It's going to be touch and go to be honest and it's unbelievable really. I tweaked my hamstring on Saturday and missed the (midweek) Carlisle game.
"Obviously a couple of years ago I was suspended, so it will be a massive disappointment for me if I missed out again.
"I've had injury problems this season and have come back from those and it's been going really well. I've got back in the team and felt things were coming together, but we'll just have to see."
Worthington had an operation in Germany in November to resolve a long-standing hernia injury by the same surgeon who had treated Alan Shearer and Michael Owen for similar complaints.
The 24-year-old, ruled out from late August until December, also missed large chunks of last season after undergoing two smaller operations for related problems.
Worthington said: "I've got to be realistic. I've been working hard and putting the hours in on the treatment table with the physio, but I'll be professional about it.
"It's not worth risking for one match if it's not right. If it doesn't feel right I won't play."
Huddersfield, who came back from 2-0 down at Accrington in the first round, have beaten Grimsby, Birmingham and Oldham to get a second crack at Chelsea and Worthington feels his side could not be in better shape to face the Londoners.
He said: "Our league form has been excellent over the last few games and it's definitely a good time to be going to Stamford Bridge.
"The lads' confidence is up and we're playing well. But any team going to Chelsea is up against it.
"Aren't they unbeaten there in four years? It's a massive, daunting task, but the lads will go there with no pressure."
Dewsbury-born Worthington, who came through the ranks at the Galpharm Stadium, made his debut as a 19-year-old in 2002 and was made captain by previous manager Peter Jackson not long after his 20th birthday.
A League Two play-off final win and a defeat in the League One play-off semi-final have so far been the highlights of Worthington's career.
He knows only too well the chances of him pitting his wits against the game's top players are few and far between at this stage of his career.
Worthington added: "Chelsea are a massive club. With the owner they've got (Roman Abramovich) and his backing, they've brought world class players to the Premiership.
"They're up there now with Manchester United and Arsenal. In every department they've got world class players.
"They're fantastic all over the field really and it gives us the chance to compete against top players. It's what every player aspires to and I'll do everything I can to make it."
