Teenage striker Victor Anichebe is becoming Everton's lucky charm in Europe as they surge on in the UEFA Cup.
The youngster scored his fourth goal of this season's tournament in Wednesday night's 2-0 last-32 first-leg win at Brann Bergen to move himself within one of the club record for a European campaign.
Anichebe's senior colleagues now expect him to score when he is brought on as a substitute to terrorise tiring opponents.
It is a ploy manager David Moyes has used to good effect this season, and Everton have won six successive European matches on the back of the youngster's strength.
Midfielder Lee Carsley said: "The boss is using Victor very cleverly. We see him coming on now in the last 20 minutes of games and we are expecting him to score.
"He is so powerful and quick he is not the sort of player that defenders want to see coming off the bench. I certainly would not want to see him doing that to us!"
Leon Osman opened the scoring for Everton on Wednesday night as they slowly ground down their determined Norwegian opponents.
Anichebe added the killer second as Everton headed into next Thursday's second leg full of confidence.
One record has already been smashed after Wednesday night's result.
The victory was the club's sixth in a row in Europe, a total no previous Everton side had achieved.
Now they are on the brink of a last-16 place, against the winners of the Rosenborg-Fiorentina tie, and Moyes said: "I am delighted with the way we turned this game around.
"In the first half we were not going anywhere, we were not passing the ball quickly enough and we were not showing enough pace around the pitch.
"Brann are a good side. They have just won the Norwegian championship and beaten a top side like Rosenborg to do it, so we know we have produced a very good victory here.
"But we needed to improve after the break. We seemed to be trying to do everything perfectly. It was causing us problems and we were losing possession.
"But we got better as the game went on and Leon Osman and Victor scored fine goals.
"I will not start thinking about the next round until we have completed the job, the second leg being next week."
He added: "We need to show respect because Brann showed themselves to be a very good side and we know they will come to Goodison Park desperate to get revenge for this.
"But we are getting our players back from injury and the African Nations Cup.
"Mikel Arteta should be back from injury by the time the second leg comes around and we have players suited to European competition becoming available again.
"I was also pleased with the performance of Yakubu. He came back into the side and played really well up front. He kept hold of the ball, linked the play well and worked really hard for the team."
