The FAI announced that it had signed a two-year contract with former Italy coach Trapattoni (pictured), starting in May after the end of the season at his Austrian club Salzburg.

Trapattoni said he was hoping to enlist Brady, who is currently head of youth development at Premier League leaders Arsenal.

"I need to talk to Giovanni a bit more," Brady told Irish public broadcaster RTE. "I haven't actually spoken to him face-to-face, I have only spoken to him over the phone."

Asked if he would consider a part-time position with the Irish team alongside his job in London, Brady said he needed to talk to Trapattoni before he could ask Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger.

"I don't want to give up my job at Arsenal, I love my job at Arsenal," he said.

After leaving Arsenal in 1980, Brady played in Italy for seven seasons, including spells at Juventus, Sampdoria and Internazionale.
