The Cameroon international forward was responding to claims that both Drogba and Ivory Coast team-mate Yaya Toure have discussed such a move, and the all-time African Cup of Nations top goalscorer is keen on a link-up with the 29-year-old.

"I am not 100% sure what the intentions of Barcelona are, but Drogba would be an excellent player for the team," Eto'o said. "It would not be a problem if he arrived at the club, but extra help to return this team to where it should be - the best in the world.

"I am a friend of Drogba's and I know that he has always been interested in playing in Spain and in Barcelona."

Barcelona currently have three of the world's top strikers in Eto'o, Thierry Henry and Argentina wonderkid Lionel Messi, not to mention exciting prospects Giovani Dos Santos and Bojan, but the former Mallorca and Real Madrid man feels Drogba could easily be accommodated into the squad.

"A team with Messi, Henry, Drogba and me is possible on the pitch without anybody having to leave the club," Eto'o continued.

"It would be a super-offensive team.

"During the African Nations Cup I heard about the comments about Drogba and Barcelona, which is to be expected. Any player desires to be at the best club in the world.

"I respect my team-mates but a man like Drogba would be positive for any club. If the directors ask my opinion then I would be in favour of the move."
