Second seeded Russian Anna Chakvetadze crashed out of the Diamond Games in a 6-3 7-5 second-round defeat at the hands of Swedish qualifier Sofia Arvidsson.

After losing the opening two games, the Swede, who turns 24 on Saturday, fought back to lead 4-2 and remained in control for the rest of the first set.

World number six Chakvetadze, winner of last week's Paris Open, made her work hard in the second set but finally succumbed to an opponent ranked 60 places below her.

Arvidsson will face China's Li Na, seeded nine, in Friday's quarter-finals.

World number one Justine Henin kicks off her campaign for a win on home soil when she faces Bulgaria's Tsvetana Pironkova later on Thursday.
