Serie A - Milan still hopeful of Beckham deal

Eurosport - Sat, 14 Feb 15:11:00 2009

Milan still hope to sign David Beckham from Los Angeles Galaxy permanently and view the Major League Soccer's deadline for a deal as a "tactic" according to chief executive Adriano Galliani.

The England midfielder, on loan to Milan until March 9, has said he wants to stay at the Serie A club full-time but the MLS imposed a Friday deadline which passed without agreement. Galaxy said they now expect him to return next month.

"In the meantime Beckham is here at Milan, we'll see what happens in a month or so," Galliani told Sky television.

"It's a tactic," he added when asked about the deadline.

Italian media speculated that a deal could still be reached by the parties irrespective of the arbitrary deadline set down by the MLS during the week.

Beckham is set to play in his first derby against Serie A leaders Internazionale at the San Siro on Sunday and coach Carlo Ancelotti hopes it will not be his last.

"I cannot know if it will be Beckham's last derby," Ancelotti said.

"My hope is that he can play lots more with the same shirt. At the moment he's an indispensable player for Milan."

Beckham's spokesman said the player and his advisors will consider their position after the Inter game.

"David is focussed on the Milan derby this Sunday. We will be addressing this early next week," Simon Oliveira told Reuters.

Beckham has the option of buying out his contract and has a clause which means he can leave Galaxy for nothing in October.

  2. "Apparently, Milan management does not understand the meaning of the term "contract"."
They must do, Since they seem keen to pass them out to players that may be past there sell by date.
But there part of the AC Milan family. And no other club in the world takes care of there players like AC Milan does.

They don't get enough recognition for that.

  14. Trust, this deal is already done. You think that Milan and Beckham wouldn't come to an agreement to force galaxy into a sale. Milan have already offered 8.5m, Becks will just top it up to 15 or 20 mil himself. Also take no notice of this so-called deadline that this Garber bloke has put in place, how many deals have been done after someone set a personal league deadline. It will be done, it is inevitable. I think that its a good deal for becks, he will break shiltons cap record if he stays at milan.

His prime motivator is publicity and money. If it was football he would have shut up ditched Victoria and still be playing for Fergie.
