Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs is determined not to make the same mistake as team-mate Paul Scholes by retiring too early.
Scholes called time on his professional career last summer and settled into a coaching role with United's reserve team - only to return in January after a plea from manager Sir Alex Ferguson to help ease his midfield struggles.
Giggs considered retirement last season during a frustrating spell out of the team but has remained part of Ferguson's squad throughout and is set for his 900th appearance for the club in Thursday's Europa League clash with Ajax.
And he told the Daily Telegraph: "When to retire is difficult. Do you quit too early or go that one too many games and let people see you on the slide? Retirement is just a decision that I have to take my time with because I feel different after each game.
"He (Scholes) was missing it and it's no secret that me, (Gary Neville) and a few other people felt that he had finshed too early, but who where we to know?
"We wanted him to carry on but he'd made his decision quite early and it was probably too early, which I think he accepts now. Who knows? Maybe he'll carry on next year."

I'm with ROLAND on this one. Yes, Giggs does play the occasional good ball or cross but just watch how many times he gives the ball away when not under pressure. You just can't do that when you're playing in midfield. Over the years he's been great for us but his time has now come. He's been going steadily downhill for the last 5 years or so. I don't want to remember him as a liability.
Iv'e been supporting UTD for forty odd years now and believe me Giggs is a very good player. However since he started playing his final ball and crossing are his weak points always have been and your not going to cure that now. Statistics and lies damm lies spring to mindabout his assists this season but the years I have been watching UTD and Giggs his passing is a big let down at times. If it wasn't for that he would be world class, but he is just a very good player.
#2 sorry but you are totally wrong, giggs has the higher assists per minutes in this season's premier league, read the facts before you write a sht like this
scholes was awesome on sunday!
although, he did lose the ball quite a few times in midfield against liverpool in the league....but then he did play some brilliant balls too.
his crossing and final ball?? lol, have you been watching him this season, he has crossed the ball for a striker to put it in the net lots of times this season....check his assists out!
Mick McArthy for England Manager.
Wish he would retire his passing is becoming a bleeding liability, its always been his weak point his crossing and final ball. Other than that not a bad player.
