Middlesbrough defender Stephen McManus has joined Bristol City on loan until the end of the season.
The 29-year-old has made 20 appearances for Boro this season but has not featured under manager Tony Mowbray since the 2-0 home defeat to West Ham on November 29 last year.
City manager Derek McInnes said he hopes to give McManus the chance to play that he has not enjoyed at the Riverside Stadium recently.
He told bcfc.co.uk: "He hasn't featured for Middlesbrough as much as he would have liked but this move enables to do what he does best.
"We're not just signing a player, we're signing a man, a captain and a leader. He's captained Scotland and Celtic - and I want as many captains in my team as possible.
"He'll bring a presence to our back four having played at the highest level in Scotland for many years."

If Mowbray has got rid of a player simply because of not liking him personally, it him who should grow up and be professional, not us.

mogga hates him.simple.grow up you two
I too am a little surprised guys, but there is possibly a little more to this than is being revealed. As the Bristol City manager says, McManus is extremely experienced, has captained both the top side in Scotland and his national team so somerthing else must be underlying. He clearly did not bring to the Boro team what Bobby Murdoch brought in the early 70s. Murdoch with his advice and in the field coaching made Souness the great player he became it is a shame McManus was not able to provide similar for Hines and Williams. But we must wish him well.
I agree jwebber, but may be Mogga thinks he has enough centre backs Hines/ Bates/ Williams.............but like you I'm a bit surprised...I guess he must be on good money, otherwise thought they would have kept him !
Shows what I know, thought he had not played for Boro because he was injured. Seems to have the experience Boro say they need!
