Lampard: Title is within reach

Fri 14 Mar, 09:00 AM

Frank Lampard insists the Premier League title is still in Chelsea's sights - and says the 6-1 win over Derby filled the Blues with confidence. The Blues midfielder was delighted with his four-goal haul against the Rams as Chelsea banished the memory of their shock FA Cup exit at the hands of Barnsley the previous Saturday.

He missed that game with a slight thigh strain but insists he will be in top shape for the run-in.

Chelsea moved to within five points of leaders Arsenal with victory over the Rams and have a game in hand.

Both Manchester United and Arsenal have to visit Stamford Bridge and Lampard remains confident they can put together an unbeaten run to take the title.

He added: "It's the first time I've scored four at the top level and it feels very nice to do it, especially from midfield.

"I had a feeling before the match that I might do well. I feel very fresh. Probably the one benefit from missing three months out injured is I feel very fresh now, when the season is reaching its climax.

"There's a few of us the same - John Terry, Didier Drogba - and if we can show we're fresh for the run-in that might be something in our favour."

Lampard admitted the Blues were conscious of the need to cash in against hapless County.

"No disrespect to Derby but we knew it was an opportunity to get a few goals and improve our goal difference and generate a bit of confidence," he added.

"It could go down to goal difference at the end of the season but we just need to win our games now.

"It's almost in our hands. We're three points behind Manchester United and five behind Arsenal with a game in hand.

"We've been on runs before where we've won 10 out of 10, or near enough, and a run like that could win you the title."
