Schmeichel to make Sky Blues bow

Fri 14 Mar, 01:45 PM

Coventry manager Chris Coleman will hand a debut to goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel for the clash with struggling Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday. The Sky Blues signed Schmeichel on loan from Manchester City for the remainder of the campaign on Thursday and the 21-year-old is set to start against the Owls.

Schmeichel was brought in as goalkeepers Dimi Konstantopoulos and Andy Marshall are both set to have operations.

Konstantopoulos underwent surgery on Wednesday to remove a growth on his vocal cords, a procedure that is only expected to keep the giant Greek out for a couple of days.

Leon Best and Stephen Hughes both suffered knocks in the midweek defeat at Sheffield United while Scott Dann (suspected broken nose) and Michael Mifsud (calf) could miss out.

Meanwhile, Marshall has agreed to postpone a back operation until the end of the season in order to help the squad.

Coleman's side are just a point ahead of the Owls but a win could lift the Sky Blues to 18th place.
