Amicelli sprung a 33-1 surprise for Cherry Coward and Oliver Greenall in the Christie's Foxhunter Chase Challenge Cup at Cheltenham on Friday.
The nine-year-old arrived on the scene full of running as those in contention swung for home and had enough in the tank to claim victory despite a couple of sketchy jumps at the final two fences.
Bon Accord (15-2) stuck on well up the hill for second, having been in contention for much of the race, while 40-1 shot Arctic Times kept galloping for third.
The last-named made most of the running until tiring late on.
Winning owner Lord Daresbury, the jockey's father, said: "He's looked a different horse since we went point-to-pointing with him.
"We were concerned that this was a big step up in class for him, but I'm proud of the ride he got and it showed the horse is improving at a rate of knots."
