Portuguese defender Jorge Andrade has had surgery on his left knee and is likely to miss the European Championship finals.

It gave no indication of how long it would take the 29-year-old to recover but said the Juventus defender will be out of Euro 2008, co-hosted by Switzerland and Austria from June 7-29.

The operation was performed by a Portuguese medical team headed by Antonio Martins and attended by the Serie A club's doctor.

The centre-back joined Juventus from Deportivo Coruna this season.

Andrade also missed the 2006 World Cup in Germany after knee surgery.
