Northampton have exercised their option to extend the contract of Hungarian international Gabor Gyepes until the end of next season. The 26-year-old defender arrived at Sixfields in the January transfer window on an initial deal until the end of the current campaign.

But after discussions between manager Stuart Gray and Gyepes on Monday the club decided to extend that deal.

"I know that Gabor is enjoying his time here," said Gray.

"He has done well since coming in. His fitness is building all the time and with a good pre-season behind him in the summer he can improve even further. He has proved his fitness after his long-term injury and has put together a good run of performances.

"He is a quality player and a very good addition to next season's squad. I am delighted that he will be staying with us."
