Portsmouth goalkeeper David James was relieved he resisted the temptation to get his hair cut before Saturday's clash with Newcastle. In the 72nd minute of the goalless draw, Sylvain Distin shanked an intended clearance straight onto Michael Owen's toe but the instinctive volley may still have spiralled over the crossbar had it not it brushed the top of James' head first.
James said: "I was thinking of having my hair cut last week but I'm glad I didn't or we would have lost 1-0.
"It's a save but I'll take it because, after seeing the video, my performance looked interesting to say the least."
