Little lays into hopeless Dragons

Mon 14 Apr, 03:45 PM

Wrexham manager Brian Little did not mince his words after his side were shoved a step closer to relegation after a 3-0 defeat at Shrewsbury."I genuinely think that the last 20 minutes was the worst of my football career," he said after second-half goals from Darren Moss and James Constable added to Kevin McIntyre's early opener.

The man who tasted European football with Aston Villa and now faces non-league football with Wrexham added: "It was a bad day, and we lost heart."

Wrexham's travelling 1,242 supporters who had made the short journey across the Welsh border had hardly settled into their seats before Shrewsbury took the lead following an incredible misjudgement by goalkeeper Gavin Ward.

A free-kick from Colin Murdock should have comfortably been taken by Ward, but he inexplicably failed to go for it and McIntyre was allowed to chase the ball 30 yards and nod over the head of the static keeper.

"It was the worst goal I've seen for some time," said Little. "Losing a goal early in a derby was bad and we had little fight. It's not individuals. One week it's the goalkeeper who makes mistakes, another the defenders, another the midfield and then there are mistakes up front."
