Port Vale defender Mark McGregor has been released by the club after relegation was confirmed with Saturday's 0-0 draw with Huddersfield.McGregor spent two and a half years at Vale Park after an initial loan move from Blackpool.
The 31-year-old told the club's official website: "It's sad, but football is a short career and sometimes you have to take a decision and that's what me and the club have come to."
"I am not fixed up with another club yet, I just want to step back and see which is the best way forward. I'm looking to get a new club and get my name out there."
Vale boss Lee Sinnott wished McGregor well saying: "He's been a good servant to Port Vale. His attitude to training and games has always been first class."
