Richardson looking for leaders

Mon 14 Apr, 04:45 PM

Manager Lee Richardson is concerned that the absence of a "natural leader" in Chesterfield's squad could see them miss out on the play-offs.The Spireites remain in eighth place, two points adrift of the play-offs after squandering the lead at Morecambe to draw 1-1.

"You could see their goal coming on Saturday. We stopped pressing the ball, didn't win any second balls and looked hesitant and it is because we don't have a natural leader on the pitch," said Richardson. "Fortunately other results went our way a little to keep us in there fighting but that can't continue, the players have to step up to the plate or it could cost us.

"We need someone to take the bull by the horns and win a few tackles and get us back on the front foot when things are starting to get away from us.

"You can see it from the touchline but it is hard to get the message across. The players must see it for themselves and resort to ugly football at times."
