Williams hails Gerken's efforts

Mon 14 Apr, 12:15 PM

Geraint Williams has paid tribute to the performances of goalkeeper Dean Gerken this season, despite the avalanche of goals against Colchester. The relegated Us have leaked 77 goals this term and did not manage a clean sheet for 38 successive Championship games until last week's 2-0 win over Ipswich.

But Gerken's performances have still attracted attention, not least his string of fine saves in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Leicester.

"It's been a tough season for young Dean because three of last year's back four left in the summer," said Williams.

"We have had a lot of injuries and different personnel in front of him. We have conceded too many goals this year and he's taken too much pressure on himself.

"It was great to see a clean sheet from him last week and he got close to one this week."
