Marseille president Pape Diouf is urging everyone at the club not to get carried away with their current status at the top of Ligue 1, which he has described as "very fragile".

The club have are well-primed to get their hands on the league title after seven consecutive years at Lyon following their 4-1 win over Grenoble and the reigning champions' 2-2 draw with Monaco.

However, with seven matches remaining, including the visit of Lyon to the Stade Velodrome on May 16, Diouf has warned against complacency.

Diouf told L'Equipe: "There's no need to get excited. We are in a comfortable situation but it remains very fragile. Lyon still have their destiny in their own hands.

"At the beginning of the season the objective was the Champions League, therefore a place in the top two. But, taking into consideration our situation, we now have the ambition to win the championship."

OM are also still in the UEFA Cup, although they will have to overturn a two-goal deficit following the quarter-final first leg at Shakhtar Donetsk on Thursday.

Diouf also praised manager Eric Gerets, but remained guarded as to whether his current contract, which expires at the end of the season, would be renewed in the summer.

"Eric has brought a lot," he said. "The progression of the club has continued. Will he extend his contract? We don't discuss these matters in public. We know what we told each other."
