Adams expecting Seagulls to soar

Wed 14 May, 02:15 PM

Micky Adams is confident Brighton's players will thrive under his leadership despite the circumstances of his surprise appointment as manager.Adams has returned to the club he led to the third division title in 2001 last week, replacing Dean Wilkins despite the former Albion midfielder guiding them to a respectable seventh in League One this season.

Many of Brighton's squad have come through the youth ranks under the guidance of Wilkins, who has yet to respond to an offer to stay on as first-team coach.

"In my experience footballers tend to be quite resilient. They see managers come and go," Adams told the Argus.

"Maybe it's a bit daunting for the younger lads who haven't experienced it before. There will be players who are not bothered about me coming in and others who are disappointed. That's the same in any dressing room.

"Dean had his ideas about certain players but as far as I'm concerned it's a clean slate for everybody. This is all part of their footballing education. They have worked with Dean for a number of years - some of them since they were nine - but now it's a new man with different ideas which will further their education."
