Licka wants Pearson to stay on

Wed 14 May, 06:30 PM

Southampton winger Mario Licka admits he is desperate for Nigel Pearson to be kept on as manager amid the boardroom upheaval at St Mary's.Pearson's position could be in doubt if, as expected, former chairmen Rupert Lowe and Michael Wilde reclaim power at the club this week.

But Czech star Licka, who was largely frozen out under George Burley before being given the chance to play a part in Saints' survival by Pearson, believes it would be a huge mistake to dispense with his services.

"I would love him to stay and not just because he gave me a chance," said Licka.

"He has done a great job here and he is the right person for the club.

"I hope he gets the chance to build his own side and to prepare them through pre-season."
