Defender Matt Richards has left Ipswich after the club decided not to offer him a new contract.

The 24-year-old met with manager Roy Keane on Thursday morning and was told he would not be getting a new deal at Portman Road.

Having progressed through the club's academy, Richards made his debut against Avenir Beggen in the UEFA Cup in 2002 and in doing so became the youngest player to represent the club in European competition.

Richards went on to make 168 appearances for the Tractor Boys, the last of which came in Keane's first game in charge against Cardiff.

Keane has now released eight players with Tommy Miller, Dean Bowditch, Billy Clarke, Ivan Campo, Jai Reason, Kurt Robinson and Chris Casement all leaving the club.

The Irishman is yet to hold talks with Dan Harding and Liam Trotter who are also out of contract.
