Hamilton boss Billy Reid has confirmed Celtic have made a bid for star midfielder James McCarthy.
Reid refused to divulge the amount of the offer but revealed it was set to be rejected by the Lanarkshire club.
He told PA Sport: "The club have received an offer for James. I can say at this stage that it will be rejected."
Celtic's offer is the second to be knocked back by Accies in the past week after they rejected an approach from Portsmouth for a fee reportedly in the region of £500,000.
McCarthy, 18, is arguably the hottest property in Scottish football and recently capped a superb debut season in the SPL by winning the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award.
His agent Willie McKay has claimed the player would snub a move to the Premier League in order to join Celtic.
Reid added: "We're keeping James informed at all times of the situation.
"At this stage, he's just focusing on the final two games of the season."
Should Hamilton reject Celtic's initial bid, it remains to be see whether the Scottish champions will return with an improved offer.

hi SINGIN' GINGER i'm sorry i though aberdeen were at home but it'll be even better when the gers lose at ipox the bottleing muppets hail hail up the hoop and may sue honey may be in touch if she can stop plundering her kinckers or may be her fingers r stuck LOL!!!
Gary your a f uckin vagina!dont be worried about th hoops transfer policies, stick to th hu ns site and take that other rodent g string with you..pair a pri cks, want to talk about dodjy shouts with celtic fans on th celtic page,we feel your pain !
pt58 singin' ginger more than likely maybe she has get it sorted sorry for not getting back sooner but i was look though other page and fell of my seat at broadfoots mishap and your blogs about it
SPUD - I wonder how my wee burd SUEHONEY is today? Is her fingers still swollen from typing on Wednesday? Wi' they big sausage fingers, she must've had a good time plundering her knickers yesterday and today!! LOL!!
pt50 just 2 say sorry i notice sum blogs have been removed or renumbered so once again very sorry 2 give out 2 u about it
pt53 he did on tue night and o so wrong it was i hope big jans up front on sun with skippy samaras should be of load at the end of the season better with a chocolate fire guard or teapot
stuart how is it gone looking forward 2 see the new signing if it happens hamilton have said it'll be rejected hope not up the hoops
paulg r u not talking 2 me any more as for stuart and singin' ginger get ready 2 party bhoys after the rangers bottle it at aberdeen and the celtic win at easter road
Point 47 Wtf are you ranting on about now?
Not every player at a club can be a first pick and the players you mentioned all have dozens of apps between them. Killen probably the biggest disappointment, but who in their right mind would unneccesarily break up Skippy and Jan who were awesome last season.
pt17 wake up go 2 ipox sum time and see that celticpark is bigger and better and thas a far better football team getitupu u ned
pt10 can't wait 2 see it out at the end of the season i think as for pt32 keep on exporting the handbags hope u make tuns of money as for pt50 check out the no. of the point before bloging sorry but u got the wrong no. and your blog doesn't make any sense
point 9, are you having a laugh? celtic are a buying club? don't talk pi.sh they are a selling club, just wait and see in the coming months stuart.
pt3 the huns could not afford 2 pay for his laces up to your knees in fenian blood more like over your head in debt and sinking fast o by the way how is murry getting on trying 2 sign the pliot who landed in the hudson river 2 save your sinking ship and if he can not sign him will u be the first rat 2 leave it getitupu u ned
pt19 i take it he has not been 2 any games this season then because all the games played there have be c.rap just a fair weather fan than
G wilson ur funny! I agree with buying players but I fail to see the point of buying them just because ur manager doesn't like players performing well against u, Rangers do the same, but more so Celts. Have u never heard of rotation or does Strachan just pick players on how they look in the shower. Before ur predictable and say I'm confusing Strachan with myself, I'm not. Sorry, thought I'd lower myself for a second, I ask an honest question and George tries (and succeeds)in being a muppet so I just wondered how it felt to be incapable of making a valid point.
Point 44. It's quite possible he'll start most games from the bench, but when a club has 30 plus players and untill the rules change from being 11 a-side, most players will find themselves not starting.
Point 39. A player under contract can only leave if a fee is agreed.
In other words both sides have accepted the amount.
to comment 44
yes is the answer . he will just warm the bench .while he is a top prospect for the future .he is not quite good enough to get into the 1st team . so if celtic do eventually buy him i would prefer to see him stay on loan at hamilton for another season
Will McCarthy not just become another bench warmer? Killen, Riordan, Flood, Mark Brown, Wilson, Zaluska when he arrives. Have I missed anyone? By the way I'm not Anti-Celtic or Pro-Rangers.
HAIL HAIL !
