Rangers missed out on the chance to return to the top of the SPL after drawing 1-1 away at Hibernian.

Nacho Novo rescued a draw for Rangers in controversial circumstances as the SPL title race took another dramatic turn.

The Ibrox side were furious an earlier effort from the Spaniard was not allowed to stand after Derek Riordan had given the home side the lead.

The 1-1 draw saw Rangers squander the opportunity to move clear of Celtic at the summit, with goal difference all that separates the Old Firm rivals heading into the final two games of the SPL season.

Scott Arfield's second-half strike took Falkirk off the bottom after they beat Hamilton 1-0.

There was an hour gone of a hard-fought match when Scotland B player Arfield crashed a shot from the edge of the box in off the post to hand the Bairns three valuable points.

Kevin Kyle scored a goal in each half as Kilmarnock claimed a vital 2-1 win which consigns St Mirren to the bottom spot.

The striker bulleted home a first-half header from Mehdi Taouil's cross and swept home three minutes after the break from a Willie Gibson pass.

St Mirren netted a late consolation through Craig Dargo but now find themselves a point adrift of Falkirk at the bottom.

John Sutton denied former Motherwell manager Terry Butcher a glorious return to Fir Park as Inverness were 11 minutes away from a victory that would have sealed their SPL status before drawing 2-2.

Goals from Filipe Morais and Dougie Imrie had taken Caley Thistle to the brink of safety but, with results going their way elsewhere, Well substitute Sutton fired home from close range.

Inverness had fought back well from Brian McLean's opener and former Motherwell striker Richie Foran had a shot cleared off the line in the final 10 minutes.
