Kitson's quality - Pulis

Thu, 14 May 10:51:12 2009

Stoke manager Tony Pulis believes Dave Kitson can still make an impact at the Britannia Stadium.

The club's record £5.5million signing is returning to the club after a loan spell at his former side Reading ended with their exit from the Coca-Cola Championship play-offs.

Pulis is hoping the 29-year-old can kick on next season after he failed to score in 18 appearances for Stoke. He wants Kitson to show the kind of form that brought him 10 goals for Reading in the top flight.

Pulis said: "I have not spoken to Dave yet but obviously Reading's defeat was an enormous disappointment for him.

"He will come back as I thought he was unfortunate here. He had a lot of things going on behind the scenes that did not help. We still think Dave is a quality player. If he gets a couple of goals early on next season that could help him.

"He has done it before and done very well in the Premier League. It hasn't worked here yet but that happens with lots of players. Dave will have a fresh start and if he gets a good pre-season under his belt that will help him."

  3. I understand with ijrutter because if Kitson does flop again next season, stoke will have to sell for less than they bought. Personally, I do hope that he comes back and does better than before. We could do with him now as Beattie has got a few niggling injuries that seem to be affecting his performances slightly. Cresswell is good for the last couple of minutes to wind down a game and Camara isn't the player to go with Fuller so someone like Kitson could do okay whilst Beattie gets back to 100% match fitness.

  4. I suspect Stoke were banking on Reading getting promoted so the latter could afford to buy DK back at a similar price. If he can't make a go of things at Stoke (for personal reasons) it will be interesting to see who else is willing to gamble on a player whom, on evidence, appears to struggle away from his comfort zone...
