Tevez closer to Old Trafford exit

Thu 14 May, 01:33 PM

Carlos Tevez looks certain to leave Old Trafford this summer after being caught in the crossfire between Manchester United and his advisor Kia Joorabchian.

No sooner had Sir Alex Ferguson eulogised about Tevez's goalscoring contribution to United's 2-1 win at Wigan on Wednesday night, and confirmed a contract offer had been put to the South American, than a statement was released on Joorabchian's behalf insisting there was no deal.

"(Chief executive) David Gill has had a good meeting and I have spoken to him. We have given him an offer and we hope he accepts," said Ferguson.

In addition, it has privately been suggested Tevez's heart is no longer committed to the United cause, even though it did not seem that way when Tevez scored their equaliser at the JJB Stadium, or in the celebrations that accompanied Michael Carrick's late winner.

"The fans love him because he is a trier," continued Ferguson.

"He has great skill, of course, but he never gives in and that is a great quality to have. He has a hunger to fight all the time. It is wonderful to see.

"The problem is we are not negotiating with a football club."

In fact, United are dealing with Joorabchian, who was allowed to keep Tevez's registration at the start of a two-year loan period but must now relinquish it if the South American is to remain in the Premier League.

"It is true David Gill came to see Mr Joorabchian and they had a cordial meeting," said Joorabchian's spokesman. "It is categorically untrue that Manchester United made an offer to try to persuade Carlos Tevez to stay at the club.

"In 2007 Manchester United agreed a two-year loan deal for Carlos Tevez and at the same time agreed the terms that would make the transfer permanent. They have not taken up that option."

  1. Joorabchian has certainly proved to be a lot smarter than Tevez at least who literally "sold" himself to this @#$%! I don't know all the details but I would guess that Tevez probably comes from a poor family background and the money put in front of him and/or his family. (That's another way that they bring pressure on a player, just ask Ronaldo about Real Madrid pressurising his mother!) This money was probably an offer that he felt he couldn't refuse at the time ... anyone want to correct me if I have this wrong?

  2. no. 11 - i agree that berba was a waste of money but i dnt think anderson, nani or hargreaves hav been that bad for united. whilst anderson hasnt scord yet, he is still an asset to the midfield and can always build an attack. nani has had a bad season but i think ther is stil more to come from him next season and hargreaves has been plagued by injury so u can barely slate him for being injured. summary - sell berba back to tottenham and keep tevez

  3. KIA= Killed In Action. Tevez doesn't have a contract with KIA for life and certainly noone is a slave of anyone else in this century. Tevez just can walk away from KIA & Co if he wishes.

  4. There is something sooo shady about this whole Joorabchian thing. For instance, what if United offered Tevez a new contract with pay & bonuses, Tevez turns around to Joorabchian & co and says, right, that's it I'm staying with united, and I'm gonna sign with them. What do Joorabchian & co do then? sue Tevez? Sue United? on what grounds? breach of the contract they have with Tevez (is their contract indefinite)? is that contract legally binding? ie can a 3-party or individual own a player's registration? Why don't FIFA Step in and say such a contract is not allowable. A Player can only be contracted to a club, otherwise they are a 'free agent'. Back that up with saying that anyone under such a contract would be banned from participating in any FIFA sanctioned competition (ie every league in the world). That would be the end of it. FIFA's absence / silence from this whole matter concerns me greatly! This is something they should deal with once and for all.

  9. tev has said he doesnt want to stay.. he wants first team footy every week and he wont get that at man u, i will have to say tho fergie needs his eyes testing if he dont think tev makes the difference, last nite he turned that game, if berb is worth 30mil in fergies eyes tev must be worth 60mil.some of the players man u have bought in last 4 yrs have been woeful.. berb, anderson, nani, hargreaves..thats 70mil worth of players.. its that bad ronaldo has played striker more times than yr actual forwards have this season.. he leaves tev on the bench and he is by far yr best forward.. it baffles me..

  10. What a mess!!!!!
Kia Joorabchian you are so greedy Sir Alex will make Tevez a united player in the next two weeks watch this space... Sir Alex always gets his way we will sign him i am sure.
There is a loop hole somewhere and Uniteds lawyers are hard at work looking into this and there will win this battle no question about that!

    From newitt128, on Thu 14 May 9:37AM
  11. Surely the FA/ UEFA FIFA should step in and sort this mess out. How is it that in the 21st century a player can be owned like a car by unscrupulous agents like this Kia J....

It seems obvious that Tevez wants to stay, so if he moves it is against his wishes and he should have the courage to stand up and fit this. After all, is he a slave???

  14. this Joorabchian is just after more money cos they are simply manchester united, he knew he wouldn't get the money from a smaller financial status club like west ham, so as soon as tevez went to man utd, Joorabchian seen a window of opportunity to exploit for cash

From Andy T, on Thu 14 May 8:58AM
  15. mendipsampson West Ham lied about the registration and the paperwork was not done correctly, United and Liverpool made sure they weren't as stupid as West Ham.

From james b, on Thu 14 May 8:48AM
  16. Of course, it has been OK for Manure to play Tevez & Liverpool to play Mascherano, it's only the little guy, West Ham who gets kicked in the teeth over the whole deal

  17. Why is "It is categorically untrue....." not in quotes ? Is it an error or was it never actually said ????
