Wolves eager to keep Craddock

Wolves have revealed talks with Jody Craddock over a new deal at Molineux are ongoing after announcing Lewis Gobern, Alex Melbourne and Matt Bailey will not be offered new contracts.

Club captain Craddock, 33, has vital Premier League experience having been a mainstay in Wolves` defence the last time they were in the top flight in 2003/04.

Manager Mick McCarthy took up the option of a one-year extension on the centre-back`s contract last summer, only for Craddock to suffer a broken metatarsal in the second game of this season.

He returned from injury towards the end of January before going on to play a crucial part in the club`s promotion winning run-in, regaining the captaincy from Karl Henry in the process.

McCarthy has stressed his desire for Craddock to remain in the Black Country to provide much-needed experience as the club look to survive in the Premier League, and it is hoped a deal will be thrashed out in the near future.

However, winger Gobern, who made 12 appearances during the early stages of the 2006/07 campaign before a succession of injury problems, and utility players Melbourne, 19, and Bailey, 20, will both leave the club this summer.

  1. To tell the truth the whole team was outclassed five years ago - this time we will have the money to improve the squad and as a squad player he's none too bad. He's the best centre back we have at the moment.

Look at the competition: Berra, Shackell (at Norwich) and Collins!!!
