African champions Egypt were the biggest casualties in 2010 World Cup qualifying on Saturday as some of the biggest nations suffered defeats.Egypt went down to Malawi while fellow African kingpins Ghana, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, South Africa, Mali and Morocco had a frustrating day as they lost or were held by lowly opposition.
The upset of the day came in Blantyre where the Pharaohs, who were crowned continental champions in Ghana earlier this year, fell to a late strike from Chiukepo Msowoya.
The striker was only on the field for seven minutes, coming on as an 83rd minute substitute, before netting a priceless winner which earned his side all three points and top spot - on goal difference - in Group 12.
Democratic Republic of Congo are second following their 6-0 win against Djibouti on Friday, with the north Africans dropping to third.
In Group Five, goals in each half from Eric Moloungui and Erwin N'Guema helped Gabon shock Ghana 2-0 in Libreville.
The pair scored in the 44th and 58th minutes respectively, helping Azingo Nationale to a surprisingly easy win and second place in the pool, three points behind the Black Stars.
Goals from Elias Ntaganda (14), Bogota Labama (58) and Olivier Karekezi (90) helped Rwanda maintain their 100% start to Group Eight by stunning Morocco 3-1.
Youssef Safri's 80th minute goal proved only a consolation for the Atlas Lions as they stay second behind the Rwandans, who now have three wins out of three.
Elsewhere, Mohammed Kallon scored a 22nd minute penalty as Sierra Leone shocked South African 1-0 in Freetown.

There was another major surprise in Kampala where hosts Uganda sent Angola crashing 3-1 in Group Three.
Eugene Ssepuuya opened the scoring after seven minutes with Andrew Mwesigwa (18) and Dan Wagaluka (73) handing the Cranes a comfortable lead, before Pedro Mantorras (90) grabbed a late consolation.
With six points, the Angolans remain top of the group, but only on goal difference from Uganda and Benin, who eased to a comfortable 2-0 win over Niger.
Goals from Seidath Tchomogo (59) and Razak Omotoyossi (65) helped the Squirrels to victory, with Niger still pointless.
In Group Two, McDonald Mariaga (12) and Dennis Oliech (88) were on target firing Kenya to a 2-0 win over previously unbeaten Zimbabwe.
The southern Africans, who had a win and draw from their opening two games, now drop to second behind Saturday's opponents.
