SAN DIEGO, California (AFP) - A father and son were arrested following a scuffle with PGA Tour caddie as Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and Adam Scott were playing their final hole of the US Open on Friday.

San Diego police lieutenant Dan Christman said heckling from a pair of fans led into an exchange on the ninth fairway with caddie Tony Navarro who carries the bag for Australian Scott.

"The son and father were heckling the group," Christman said. "The caddie went under the ropes to engage them."

Police arrested Thomas Campbell, 38, and his 62-year-old father Thomas W. Campbell for being drunk in public.

Christman said none of the combatants were injured in the brief altercation. But two female officers who stepped in to restrain the younger Campbell suffered minor injuries when he resisted.

Navarro was not arrested, but Christman said he was questioned by police.

Christman said Mickelson's caddie, James Mackay, was also briefly involved, coming to the aid of Navarro and pulling him away from the fray.

Christman said none of the players were involved as they had already left the area and had headed away from the fairway.

Woods, Mickelson and Scott, who are the three top ranked players in the world, were paired in a golfing supergroup which attracted a massive gallery of over 10,000 in each of the first two rounds on the Torrey Pines South course.
