Coventry manager Chris Coleman has revealed that signing Freddy Eastwood ended a personal two-year pursuit of the striker.Eastwood joined the Sky Blues from midlands rivals Wolves for an undisclosed fee and signed a four-year deal at the Ricoh Arena. Coventry had tried to sign the 24-year-old earlier this year but the transfer collapsed at the 11th hour.
However, Coleman stated his admiration for the player stretched back long before those negotiations in March as he revealed he came close to making an offer for Eastwood during his time as Fulham manager in 2006.
"I know exactly what Freddy is capable of. I watched him a couple of years ago when he was scoring goals for Southend in the Championship when I was manager at Fulham, and we were very close to making a move for Freddy then," said Coleman.
"He has developed since then with another year in the Championship and more international experience with Wales. He is a very good player and that is why I have stayed on his heels for so long.
"It has taken a while to get Freddy here as it has been on-off for a while, but sometimes deals do take time to complete when you are trying to sign a quality player."
