Reds have raised the bar - Kelly

Mon 14 Jul, 05:00 PM

Barnsley's players are being "pushed to the limits" in a bid to get them fitter than last season ahead of the new campaign. Tykes' sports scientist Dave Kelly has revealed the players have reported back "in fantastic shape", including new signings Hugo Colace, Mounir El Haimour and Iain Hume.

Kelly told the club's official website: "We've raised the bar again this summer and decided to increase the level of work we put them though in the first seven days."

He added: "The human body has limits and we will find out where those are by testing the players through training.

"We apply sports science to our training programme and want to push the players as hard as we can to improve their levels of fitness.

"There is a limit physiologically, but it's my job to get the players as far as we can and as near as possible to their maximum threshold."
