Rooney pens two-year Macc deal

Mon 14 Jul, 12:45 PM

League Two outfit Macclesfield have tied down young striker John Rooney to a two-year contract at Moss Rose ahead of the new campaign. The 17-year-old - the younger brother of Manchester United ace Wayne - graduated from the youth team ranks at the club. Despite only being in his first year as a scholar, boss Keith Alexander was eager to retain his services.

Youth team boss John Askey told the club's official website: "John has come on leaps and bounds in the last year.

"He is still by no means a finished product but if he continues to progress the way he has done then he will score a lot of goals for the club.

"For his age he is very strong and he's now got the chance to work and train with the first team and hopefully show what he can do at a higher level."

  1. When I first read the byline, and having seen Wayne stretching his MU shirt at Aberdeen, I automatically thought that there had been a typo and that Wayne had actually penned a deal with MacDonalds! ;-)
