Port Vale boss Lee Sinnott has set his side the minimum target of finishing in a play-off position during the 2008/09 campaign.Vale recorded a comfortable 4-2 victory over Newcastle Town in their second warm-up game on Saturday, and Sinnott has now thrown down the gauntlet to his relegated side to at least finish in the top seven.
"I can't stop people's expectations. I'm looking to get a solid start, although 46 games and nine months is a long time," he told the Sentinel.
"But we want to be successful and we're looking to get into the play-offs, at least.
"I'm not going to stand here and say we're looking to finish halfway because that's not the message to send out.
"You set your standards to what you're capable of reaching and that's what this group of players are learning about in pre-season, and they've got to be confident and have belief in their ability."
