Weston sees room for improvement

Mon 14 Jul, 01:15 PM

Walsall defender Rhys Weston is targeting a personal-best season as he seeks promotion to the Championship with the club. The 27-year-old was a stalwart in the side last term, making a total of 44 appearances. But Weston admits he needs to develop in order to help guide Jimmy Mullen's men to a higher level.

He said: "I'd like to play regularly again and hopefully up my performance levels slightly. I had a good season last year but there's always room for improvement, which I'm obviously looking to doing next season.

"I said when I came to Walsall that I had aspirations to play at a higher level and hopefully that will be with Walsall. I need to be doing everything I can to better myself to get back to the way I was playing a few years ago.

"It's something I think about. I don't get carried away with the idea obviously but it's something I'd like to achieve again at some point in my career and there's no time like the present.

"Hopefully, Walsall can be that vessel to take myself and the team forward."
