The Chicago Blackhawks have promoted Stan Bowman, a 36-year-old team executive whose father is legendary coach Scotty Bowman, to be the club's general manager.
Bowman, who has been with the team for a decade in various posts, replaces Dale Tallon, who is credited with building the team's talented young roster but accepted blame recently for a costly mistake.
Tallon, 58, a player, announcer and executive with the club over the past three decades, did not file qualifying offers to eight restricted free agents on time, a snafu that cost the club millions of dollars.
"This is what is best for the Chicago Blackhawks," said Tallon, who was reassigned to the position of senior advisor of hockey operations. Scotty Bowman is also a senior advisor for the club.
Last season, the Hawks reached the play-offs for the first time since 2002, losing to the Detroit Red Wings in the Western Conference finals.
