Damien Duff produced a moment of magic to secure a 2-1 win against Everton and kick-start Fulham's Premier League campaign.
Duff tried his luck from long range early on but Tim Howard did not have to move to make the save, then Clint Dempsey went wide with a drive from a similar distance.
David Stockdale was making his debut and was called into action on the quarter-of-an-hour mark when Jack Rodwell's drive deflected off Aaron Hughes, with the rookie using his knees to block and his team-mates clearing the rebound.
The hosts fell behind in the 33rd minute through the familiar sight of a headed goal by Tim Cahill.
Leighton Baines swung over the free-kick and Cahill jumped above Dickson Etuhu to head past Stockdale, although he should have been flagged for offside.
Leon Osman almost grabbed a second before the interval when he trapped Steven Pienaar's pass and went through on goal - but Hughes was back to make a last-ditch tackle.
Fulham's fortuitous equaliser came when Murphy's free-kick was blocked by the defensive wall. It rebounded to Paul Konchesky, whose powerful drive deflected in off Sylvain Distin.
Etuhu caught Everton skipper Phil Neville badly just below the left knee, with John Heitinga coming on for his debut as a replacement.
Duff's moment, his first goal since arriving from Newcastle, came 11 minutes from full-time. Bobby Zamora headed on a long ball and Johnson tapped out wide to Duff. The Irishman made tracks towards the penalty area, cut inside Baines and unleashed a powerful drive past Howard.
Stockdale saved a Marouane Fellaini header from point-blank range and Murphy cleared Joseph Yobo's follow-up shot off the line but Fulham held on.

A good contest from two clubs trying to regain the form they showed last season. I thought Everton looked out of sorts and didn't really have any shape whilst Fulham got better as the game went on. Neither club will be involved in the relegation battle but equally neither will equal their achievements last season, both will be below Man City and Spurs come May.
EVERTON ARE JUST SH.,TE FULL STOP.THEIVES AND SMA,.CKEDS
Worst start ever under David Moyes, can't see em finishing 5th this year, mind you everyone said that last year when they had an equally 5hit start

Is that it Eurosport? Is that all you've got to write on the match? Did you have a wedding to go to and thought you'd write a bit on the clip you saw on the news??!
Bloody hell ur a fickle bunch. Moyes is top class manager and it would not surprise me if he suceeds the gr8 sir alex at old trafford. Everton will still be there or thereabouts come may.
GET REAL YOU NOBS IT EARLY DAYS YET NEVER MIND EVERTON GETTING RELEGATED IN YOUR F**KIN DREAMS THEY WILL BOUNCE BACK ONCE MOYES GETS HIS S**T TOGETHER!!
Everton with a slow start but david moyes will get them up and running he's a great manager
FOR F**K SAKE MOYES GET IT RIGHT YOU BUY PLAYERS WORTH 10 MILLION AND 6.2 MILLION AND LEAVE THEM ON THE BENCH WHAT ARE YOU THINKING AND THEN WE GET BEAT BY THIRD RATE SH**E LIKE FULHAM YOU DESERVE TO BE SACKED YOU DUMB SCOTS T**T!!
ive no answer to efc at the moment were shipping goals easily and please send jo back never mind loanin vaugahn out play him wit the yak for gods sake
The big african strikers were on target this weekend - Drogba, Adebayor, Eto'o, Niang, follow the African perspective @ africaplays.come.
Just back from the match - what on earth was Everton thinking of! I was just about to get myself home when it was one each, when Duff did the business. Been a Fulham man for many years, and like most was wary of Everton, who when they play, they really shine. We didn't really deserve to win - but, as it goes, at the end we made our last 'hundred metres' count.
ha all you dummys slagging off Duff saying he is past it, great performence great goal, bet he scores more than Zamora this year, that man couldnt score in a brothel with a 50 wrapped around his flute
A season or two in the championship is just what everton need, it would give them time to rebuild the poor squad they have now and time to give some of their young players some experiance, maybe a new manager, moyes could then follow his dream of becoming the manager of a big club.
come on everton, you've got a very good team and outstanding manager. what's going on? you should be top 6.
here's hoping you turn it around again like last season cos i don't wanna see s***ty teams like man city and spurs in the top 6.
up the villa!!!!!!
There is no doubt that Everton have the opportunities to score but they are certainly not taking them. The snag is that once you are entrenched near the bottom of the Premiership you lose complete confidence and unless Everton start winning a downward spiral of confidence will continue. I know that we are missing the guile of Arteta and I am sure that Acubu, once he is fit, will be a more effective streiker than those that are presently operating. As Arteta will not be back much before Xmas the existing squad need to pull their socks up before it is too late.
whoever lost this match would end up in a bad position in the league, but in saying that it shows how tight the bottom of the league is and that although the players should pull their fingers out the fans shouldnt panic
Everton in the championship next season ha!
great match but second half was amazing, everton missed about 25 goal chances, great game from fulham
come on the toffees
we know you all can
play good football
and win
