Hughes angry at half-hearted Hibs

Hibernian manager John Hughes felt his team failed to match Hamilton's fighting qualities as they fell to their first defeat at Douglas Park for 70 years.

Hughes also admitted he may have picked the wrong team - but did not expect the game to be over before he could change his personnel. On-loan Dundee striker Mickael Antoine-Fortune completed a 2-0 victory in the 12th minute after Simon Mensing's penalty had given the hosts the lead.

Derek Riordan had a late penalty saved by Accies goalkeeper Tomas Cerny and Hibs had Colin Nish sent off in injury-time. Hamilton had shipped 10 goals in their three previous SPL games but they unsettled Hibs with an energetic display.

"I have never won a football match when I didn't roll the sleeves up and expect to be in a battle," Hughes said. "We didn't go out on the pitch and show that attitude. Let's take nothing away from Hamilton, they played some nice football and got their goals.

"I just felt we were lacking in the fundamental department - desire, application, body language, willingness to work hard. I thought we were second best, which resulted in us losing the match.

"The best thing you can have in your armoury is to play like an underdog, anything you get you have to battle for tooth and nail. I think that's what we need."
