Charlton boss Phil Parkinson feels the way his side came from a goal down to earn a point against Southampton bodes well for the campaign ahead.
The Addicks may have lost their 100% record, but Parkinson insisted the 1-1 draw was just as satisfying as their six previous victories after Deon Burton cancelled out Adam Lallana`s opener.
"We`ve had some very good victories of late but this point is just as pleasing because of the way the lads responded," said Parkinson.
"Despite Southampton`s league position, they`re a good side and I was absolutely delighted with the way we responded."
Saturday`s game also saw the return of former Charlton manager Alan Pardew to The Valley, and his former assistant Parkinson enjoyed meeting up with the man he replaced at the helm.
"We had a cup of tea beforehand and we shook hands afterwards in the tunnel. It was a fair old game and a good battle and I`m sure he`s pleased with the result as well," added Parkinson.

I agree with Reaper. Cant be sure re the offside though suspect re the 2nd given where Burton came from!
Very poor refereeing throughout- booked three of ours for innocuous matters after we were being booted off the park by the Saints in the first half. Also felt that with the lump Jaidi on at C.Half Macleod would have run him ragged- we defeinitely should have put it to bed in the last 10-15 but Parky was a little naive in my view- and kind to his old mate!
It was a good game from start to finish, but yet again we have been robbed by the officials 2 goals disallowed for offside 1 was and 1 was not also a pen that was as clear as the sunshine we were basking in.
I am worried that Parkinson did not use his subs with Nicky B not being able to run, Deon is only a 80min man as is Jonjo we have players on the bench so why not use them? we had Southampton on the ropes and we let them cling on for a point when we should have put on fresh legs with pace and skill and go for the kill. I think that is where you let us down on Saturday Parky.
Well done to Southampton for closing down our players and keeping a good tempo it will make the lads think twice before slowing down in matches, roll on the weekend and Norwich that should be a goal fest. :-)
