The John Oxx-trained superstar carried all before him during his Classic season, winning the 2000 Guineas, Derby, Eclipse, International, Irish Champion Stakes and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

After his stunning success in Paris earlier in the month, his sixth at Group One level, it had been hoped he would travel to America for a tilt at the Breeders' Cup Classic before heading to stud.

However, Oxx and the colt's big-race jockey Mick Kinane suggested the horse had done enough and had nothing left to prove.

After a period of reflection, owner Christopher Tsui has opted to let the son of Cape Cross head for what is hoped will be a productive and lucrative spell in the paddocks.

"It has been decided after discussions with Mr Christopher Tsui (owner) that Sea The Stars will not take part in the Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita on November 7," said Oxx.

"He's had a long season and has been in regular fast work from March 3, with his final workout on October 2. He's been in intensive training for seven months, with only a three-week break after the Eclipse Stakes at the beginning of July.

"We feel it is unfair to keep him going any further given his unprecedented record of achievement in the last six months.

"He's come out of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in his usual good form. He is fit and healthy and has been cantering since the race.

"He is now retiring from racing, but I have no information on stud career details and an announcement will be made at a much later date when plans have been finalised."

Sea The Stars was a winner of eight of his nine career starts, with his only defeat coming on his debut in July 2008.

  2. Great. He had nothing to prove in America as he'd only be beating more of the same. Thanks for the memories.
