Boss hails improving Youga

Charlton manager Phil Parkinson wants Kelly Youga to prove he is the best left-back in League One.

Youga appears to have come of age this season, producing some solid performances including an excellent display in the goalless draw against Oldham on Saturday during which he hit the crossbar with an overhead kick.

Parkinson has revealed how a chat with the 24-year-old at the start of the campaign has paid dividends.

"Kelly was slightly off the pace in the first two games of the season but he's a confident player," said Parkinson.

"I sat down and told him not to think this division is going to be easy. You've got to be at your absolute maximum to stay in the team and you have to strive to be the one of the best left-backs in the division.

"After those first two games he's been very good. He's a big powerful boy, he's a threat and he's a great help defending set-plays and also his athleticism and drive forward has been excellent."

  1. Totally agree with you Phil, Kelly has come on leaps and bounds this season so far.

Now all you need is a left sided midfield player with a nice left foot, and that is no disrespect to Bailey but he is a centre midfield always has been always will be, keeps drifting inside can't cross first time as he has to bring it onto his right foot. He played his best football last season in the middle of the park so put him back there.

    Roll on Saturday. :-)
