Brighton have handed a trial to former Crewe and Yeovil midfielder Gary Roberts.
The 22-year-old was released by the Glovers before the start of the season and has recently had a spell in the Sporting Chance clinic after admitting to alcohol and gambling problems.
Brighton boss Russell Slade, who managed Roberts at Yeovil, said: "Gary is trying to get his career and life back on track and he wants to re-establish himself as a professional footballer.
"He is still only young and has made some mistakes in his life, but he deserves a second chance.
"There is no doubting his football ability but he has to prove himself in other areas. That is going to take time, one small step at a time."
Nigerian striker Amadou Abdullai is also on trial with the Seagulls and will line up alongside Roberts for the reserves against Leyton Orient on Wednesday night.
