Skippers praise for Vermaelen

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has praised the impact summer signing Thomas Vermaelen has had on the Gunners.

The Belgian defender has helped add some steel to Arsenal's defence this season while also chiming in with five goals.

"I'm a big fan of him. He's been doing so well," Fabregas said on Arsenal's official website.

"It's difficult in this position, especially from centre back because you will always be compared to some other players, or if you know that your defence is one of your weaknesses then you have to do even better to be loved by the people, and I think the fans clicked straight away with him since his first game.

"He scored a goal [in his first game at Everton], played amazing, his confidence is high at the moment. And with the ball he's really good. He's like one more midfielder."

  1. Arsenal are with out doubt the best footballing side in the country and possibly europe but they still need that ability to close down games when they have the lead, something the Italians and Spanish do very well.
Once they learn how to get physical when they need to and forget about playing the perfect pass even when its not needed then I think we will have a great chance of winning something.
Arsenal still need two players (Defender & a goal machine like Drogba) if Arsen strengthens the squad in January, which I don't think he will but if he did I would give our boys a better chance of taking something at the end of the season.
The only fear I have this year is that Spurs make the top 4, the thought of them being in europe makes me feel sick, I'd rather see Everton or Villa.

Buy Yaya Toure for defensive midfield in Jan. and Hulk from Porto for our attack. We need some real muscle on the pitch. Not skiiny @#$% Bendtners and Diaby. Arshavin, Fabregas, Van Persie, Walcott, Nasri, Rosicky, Da silva, are not exactly big boys unlike Chelseas Drogba and Liverpool's Torres or the strong Rooney.

  5. i dont care (actually i do) how many goals Arsenal concede as long as they score more each game. I think Vermalen and Fabregas will lead ARS to silverwear .What do you think? Thumbs up for Yes!! Thumbs down for NO.

  7. I think that the future of Tommy is in the midfield, but now he is our great defender & scorer, I can't ask nothing more... it's a shame that Verm won't be in the next WC, his national team don't have his level, but maybe we will enjoy him in Brazil 2014.

  8. i dont care (actually i do) how many goals Arsenal concede as long as they score more each game. realistically, Vermaelen has been a breath of fresh air and will enforce the oppoition to be wary and therefore commit other players to watch out. I am just concerned that as he is upfront it leaves the Arsenal defence shortened. If the defensive midfielder or Sagna/Clichy stay behind to cover or give them a breather on a rota basis its a brilliant tactical move by the Prof.

I think we should sign a tall, strong, and smart Center Back in January, play Vermaelen as a defensive midfielder.

YEA, I THINK VAMA IS GOOD BUT I WILL LIKE IT TO BE A RARE OCASSION 4 HIM GOING FORWARD AS IN LIKE WEN HE HIT IT AGAINST MANCITY, BLACKBURN AND NOT HABITUALLY LIKE HIS WIGAN SECOND GOAL. HE SHOULD LEAVE D JOB OF GOAL SCORIN TO PERSIE AND CO SO PEOPLE DONT FEEL LIKE DEY CAN ALWAY GET A GOAL FROM ARSENAL ANY TIME DEY WANT COS I TINK DAT HAPPENED AT MAN CITY. HIS FIRST JOB IS DAT DEFENCE, PEOPLE NEED 2 BE SCARED OF COMIN 2 OUR DEFENCE SO AS DEY FEAR OUR ATTACK. ALL IN ALL HE IS A FANTASTIC PLAYA BUT I WANT DEFENCE 1ST DEN ATTACK OCCASIONALLY WEN WE REALLY NEED IT
