Augusto Farfus topped the times, stealing first place from his team-mate Joerg Muller.

James Thompson's Honda and Yvan Muller's SEAT were next with the top 12 drivers covered by 0.9 seconds.

The session was red-flagged once when Sergio Hernandez's BMW stopped on the track after hitting the wall at Paiol bend.

Muller had set the fastest lap before the suspension with 2:33.313 but after the session resumed Farfus clocked 2:33.124.

That was immediately beaten by Chevrolet's Nicola Larini but Muller responded with 2:32.753 before with only three minutes left Farfus posted the fastest time of 2:32.685.

BMW's brilliant result was completed by Andy Priaulx's fifth position but Thompson and Yvan Muller, who both clocked 2:32.874, showed that both Honda and SEAT have the potential to be very competitive.
