Honda are ready to offer retired seven-times Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher a ride in the World Superbike Championship next year.
Schumacher has taken part in German superbike races with Honda this year and recorded fast times on a Ducati in tests in Portugal last week.
"Michael is convinced that the German championship is right for him at the moment," Honda Racing's European chief Carlo Fiorani.
"For the moment he has not asked us to race in the 2009 world championship. But if he wants to, there is a way for him (to do it). All he has to do is ask us."
The 39-year-old Schumacher said earl this year that he had no intention of racing seriously on two wheels: "There'll be no second career on motorbikes," he said. "This is just a hobby."

andmar54, hailwood didn't win a world title on 4 wheels, although you are correct with your comment re John Surtees, the only man two have won WC on two and four wheels. Seriously though, we shouldn't expect Herr Schumacher to even finish in the points at most races. The guys at the front are just too accomplished. He's here for a bit of fun and Honda will get priceless publicity and endorsements out of it. Everyones a winner
at the end of the day schumi on 2 wheels and all the positive publicity that that brings can only raise the profile of every aspect of the 2 wheel lifestyle and hopefully when our racers win races/ titles etc or are sadly injured/killed it will make the mainstream news, lets face it a z-list celeb falls out of a club and is sick on a photographer it makes the mainstream, very talented and up and comimg champion gets killed at brands hatch [craig jones]- NOTHING!!!!
he loves bikes and has the means and oppurtunity to do it, good for him. don't be envious, let him enjoy himself
Bring on Schumi, might take awhile to get up to speed but just watch him teach the rest
the meaning of 'racing'
To be fair, I don't think he will finish last and if he doesn't, maybe you need to ask what are those riders that finish behind him doing there. Anyone who can get themselves on a World championship grid, however it happens, should be respected for it. Anyone out there that would turn down the same offer?
There just trying to get him to run before he can even walk just to big up the name of Honda.
Bozzie there's going to be 5 brits in WSB fighting for the championship next year.
one thing can you imagine the publicity it would bring to wsb and bikes in general can only be good.still get his @#$% kicked tho
andmar54, it's nice to see John Surtees name on this post.
Oi X RACER the answers yes, 6 years club 2 years national and 3 years BSB privateer and 1 year henderson cup, Why fancy having a go !!!!!
After a lack lustre 2008 (yes I know Troy Bayliss walks on water) Michael Schumacher will be the best thing that has happened to WSB since Raymond Roche. Thing is, will he be able to do what what John Surtees and Mike 'The Bike' managed ?
If he does WSB he'll look stupid, He wouldnt cut it in BSB's never mind WSB, He's probably a good rider but he wont be at the level required he's not stupid he know's that... Michael will stick to the German Superbike Series where he can have fun and where his fans can still pay money to see him go round in circles!
Everyone's A Winner...
Any of you guys every acually ever raceed?
schumi, honda, wsb's, bring it on, can't wait
Lets be realistic.ie.Schumi was probably the best ever on four wheels....erham....IN HIS PRIME....in other words the last few years in F1 his bottle had gone and he was just going thru the motions.....oh and the thought of Schumi on 2 wheels when he hasnt the bottle for 4,dont make me laugh-leave the guy to his truss,to count his millions in the swiss alps-The king is dead....long live the king(Lewis Hamilton)
Sure some of the things Schumey did are not approved of by everyday bods, but these are racers. Capirossi did exactly the same to win his 250 crown yet now he is loved. Just don't get hurt Michael and let us all enjoy it.
Hail Schumi!
He is what we called God of Speeds and he is the true `Legend of Speed'
well it is one way of getting rid of a legend. He is NUTS if he accepts and Honda must be bloody mad to offer it
I think if if he goes to Superbikes he may get a bit of a shock, Don't forget next year there are four brits on the grid who will not give any airs and graces when it gets a bit nasty, he won't have a bike thats got more aids than an Ann Summers catalogue to play with, and most of all he has only played at this bike thing, these other guys are going for a World Championship, They are going to be letting it all hang out at flat stick speeds over nearly 30 laps, there is no way is this guy going to live with them, Don't forget Max Biaggi fought the worlds best ever rider (Valentino Rossi) and lost so what the hell is this pretender going to do ?
He has nothing to prouve, world champion 7 times, let him have fun at something else, just because he is good at that too, dont hold it against him, as for the remarks about lewis hamilton, he is world champion thie year was runner up and so easily could have won last year, give the boy credit, another star for sure.
Is it Ok to call sombody a 'Hun'? - I don't hear any cries of 'racism'.
