Rossi ponders future in rallying

Eurosport - Fri, 14 Nov 10:42:00 2008

MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi is considering a switch to rallying when his career on two wheels is over.

"Yes, I like rallies very much," the six-times premier class world title winner said when asked if he sees his future in the sport.

"Given that I can, I will take advantage of the winter to gain experience by racing at least two (rallies)."

The Yamaha rider has driven in a number of rallies in the past and will participate in next month's Wales Rally GB, a race he crashed out of in 2002.

"It'll be hard work in Wales - getting up at 4:30, lots of kilometres, maximum concentration all the time," Rossi added.

"Last week I did some tests in Wales. There was rain, mud, (a temperature of) three degrees. I know it'll be hard. This time I want to finish."

Rossi signed a new two-year deal with Yamaha in July but refused to rule out a move to rallying after 2010.

"I think it is possible when I finish with bikes," the Italian said after testing in Cumbria earlier this week. "I have another two years -- after that we will see."

Rossi was courted by Formula One's Ferrari in 2006 after doing well in tests with them but eventually opted to continue his MotoGP career.

Ferrari have since said they will give the 29-year-old another test to celebrate his triumph in the 2008 MotoGP title race.

  1. hello my little f1 bum chums it marnio here from peru.
mr hamiltons son say he stay with mclaren men for life. that nice for him but what do mclaren men say? you see mclaren is now german owned. the parent company is the mercedes benz which is the german. the engine is the german engine. everything about the team is the german. mr hamiltons son now the swiss gentleman he eat much cheese and sings in the morning at mountains. mr hamiltons father is also now the swiss man. in fact there nothing british about this team at all. even the man who tidy up the garage after the race has moved to switzerland with his mother. switzerland is owned by the german. my friends the whole team is GERMAN - and guess what - so is mr glock. now you see why the time stand still for mr glock on the last lap. like he in the time warp. not even the people abducted by the alien lose the amount of time he lost on that last lap. IT IS A DISGRACE!!!

  4. Valentino will prevail in what ever he does, he is just that good. But go back to Honda!!!!! Are you mad! Why would he go back to an obviously defective team where Puig thinks he is King. Honda is passed it while it has that Arse at the helm.

  9. Ah rrcarsofgosport, so your showed your colours, tee hee, naffed off with Rossi proving he can win races and championships on a different machine, then again on different tyres. He has proven it was his team and him that won while he was Honda. But you are right, if he should go back to Honda, he will win again. However, you are wrong to say that he has only two options, as a 8 times world champion, he can enjoy anything he chooses to do after 2010. One thing you can rely on, he will win riding or driving anything. Paul

  13. I understand that many believe he's the best moto GP rider ever, but I beat him on my xbox last night so he can't be that good can he?

Wake up people his rule is over.

  14. Wish he'd go to Formula One and do a Johnny Surtees. Back then, the GP stars used to take part in the RAC Rally, usually hitting trees fairly early on, but it was fun.

  15. These blokes just cant retire and live the quiet life, and why should they? they enjoy the sport and good luck Vale, lets see you lay a bit of rubber on the rough stuff, you will have hell of a following whatever you do

  16. gp southall you are so so wrong about the support. How many people go to a GP race? 30-40,000 and on a really amazing day 150,000 right? How about 1 MILIION per day for 3 days out watching rallying - wake up sport - you missed the greatest sport on wheels

From not printable, on Fri 14 Nov 2:19PM
  17. Val - you will be more than most welcome into this - the very best of wheeled sport where the DRIVER is everything (and his co driver too!). People are the most open and friendly - no snobs yobs or babies here. No dummies to throw out of their prams - just men being men and loving it

From not printable, on Fri 14 Nov 2:17PM
  18. Rossi should stay where he is in moto gp...he's at the top..and still the best
rider by far...enjoy being King while you can, rallying hasnt got the same support.
